The Danish National Academy of Digital, Interactive Entertainment (det Danske Akademi for Digital og Interaktiv Underholdning, DADIU)
The purpose of DADIU is to promote research and development within the area, to be a core contact for the interactive entertainment industry, and most importantly to create a number of educations targeting the computer games industry. A joint language and a joint understanding of what computer games should be developed, and the students from the various educations should meet and together produce a game in a simulated reality.
DADIU and the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen (DIKU)
Since 2005 has DIKU been part of DADIU, which is a collaboration between University of Copenhagen, The National Film School, The Animation Workshop at University College of Western Denmark, Danmarks Designskole, Denmark's Technical University, University of Aarhus, University of Aalborg , and the IT-University of Copenhagen.
The collaboration between DADIU and the institutions is organized as follows: Each institution creates a game-track, the students complete the joint curriculum (f?llespensum/intensivkursus), and the students complete the two joint projects (f?llesproduktioner). The purpose of the joint curriculum is to familiarize the students with the language and techniques of the participating partners, and it is either taught by the individual institutions or in collaborations between the institutions. The purpose of the joint projects is to imitate a game-programming environment in order to train the students in their specific skills and in collaboration with partners from the participating institutions. The duration of each project is one month, and each project is to solve a specific game-programming task in an interdisciplinary group of approximately 12 person, determined by DADIU after a fixed schema. Drop outs will not be tollerated!
Game Track (Spillinie) at DIKU
Game Track (Spillinien) is a Post-Graduate education (kandidat uddannelse), i.e. for the 4th og 5th year. The Game Track consists of a Joint Curriculum, two Joint Productions, and a number of graduate courses at DIKU.
The joint curriculum (f?llespensum) will for the Computer Scientist students consist of Gamedesign, Graphical Design (Grafisk design), Animation, and Production methods (Produktionsmetodik). Computer Science students does not need Computer Science A and B (Datalogi A og B). Instead the students are asked to complete a written assignment of their own choice, such as produce a Design Document for a game of their own, or implementation of a game in a game enginge. Depending on the size of this assignement, the student is credited either 7.5 ECTS or 15 ECTS (ikke-skriftlige ects) for the Joint Curriculum.
The Joint Curriculum is offered at Department of Film and Media (Afd. for Film- og Medievidenskab) in collaboration with DADIU. Course responsibles are Kjetil Sandvik og Gunnar Wille Kurset som kursusansvarlige. The program for 2006 was media:DADIUsemesterplanF06.pdf. The 2007 program will be announce in the fall of 2006.
The Joint Productions are are placed on the 4th and 5th year in May and Marts respectively. At the completion of a joint production, the students receive an oral evaluation by leading expert from the industry, and to achieve study credit at DIKU, the students must make a report documenting the computer science contribution and extensions for the production. The first production in May including the report is credited with a total of 15 ECTS (skriftlige ects), and the second production in Marts is considered as part of a Master Thesis, hence credited as a minimum of 30 ECTS (skriftlige ects).
A joint production is a fulltime project of 1 month of durations for most parts, and for the leading team possibly including the lead programmer, this also includes a some pre-production. The production is a team effort for a specified group, and it is strongly discouraged that team members drop-out during the production, since this would sabotage the team effort. For that reasone does DADIU reserve the right to reject students, and all students has to apply for the joint productions. The applications forms and deadlines are found at:

Mandatory and Supplementary Courses for DIKU Students
The Game Track is multidisciplinary, and a number of Computer Science courses are offered as part of the Game track at DIKU. These are separated into mandatory and supplementary courses. The student must take the following cources:
- Introduction to Computer Graphics (Introduktion til Grafik) (Blok 1A, 7.5 ECTS)
- Game Animation (Blok 2B, 7.5 ECTS)
and at least 3 of the following courses,
- Animation (Blok 4B, 7.5 ECTS)
- Human Computer Interaction (Menneske-Datamaskine Interaktion) (Blok 1C, 7.5 ECTS)
- Introduction to distributed systems (Introduktion til distribuerede systemer) (Blok 1B, 7.5 ECTS)
- Introduction to optimisation and operationanalysis (Introduktion til optimering og operationsanalyse) (Blok 2B, 7.5 ECTS)
- Algorithmic geometry (Algoritmisk geometri) (Blok 3C?, 7.5 ECTS)
- Logic in Computer Science (Blok 1C, 7.5 ECTS)
- Advance compiler theory (Videreg?ende overs?tterteknik) (Blok 3B?, 7.5ECTS)

Notice, the quarters have been enumerated such that quarter 1 on 4th year is called quarter 1, while on the 5th year it is called quarter 5. Further, some of the courses are offered both as 3rd year bachelor course and 4th year graduate course. Courses aquired as part of the bachelor will make room for extra activities on the graduate level.
There will be a limited number of students that will be admissed to the Joint Production for practical reasons, which implies an actual application round. All students are however welcome to take part in the Game Track, and students that have not been able to participate on the Joint Production will be allowed to make similar, written projects instead. Conversely, students admitted to Joint Project 1, is automatically assumed to continue to Project 2 and assigned the same team as in Project 1. Drop out during the projects and in between is therefore strongly discouraged.
